Spin Santa Spin

How to Spin Your Way Thin This Season

Let’s be real—it’s that time of year when we’re all about the holi-day spirit, and yes, indulging in Santa’s cookies. But before we dive headfirst into an entire month of sweets and treats, here’s a little reality check: it’s just a few days. So, why turn a few holiday meals into an entire holiday marathon? One of my favorite lines from Ed Mylett sums it up perfectly: “Make it a holi-DAY, not a holi-MONTH.” You can enjoy your cookies, but let’s shift the focus. Why not use the holiday season to shake things up, challenge yourself, and maybe try something a little scary in a totally fun way? I may be biased, but let’s talk about pole fitness.

Pole dancing is making waves—and it’s not going anywhere! More studios are popping up around Pittsburgh, including my studio, Fit-nessEnvi, in Greensburg. Whether you’re new to fitness or just need a fresh way to keep things interesting, pole fitness is the ultimate combo of strength, flexibility, and fun. Why not book a private les-son with some friends and switch up the usual “sit, sip, and snack” routine? Trust me, it’s more than just a workout—it’s a holiday game-changer!

Pole dancing has ancient roots, far beyond the modern strip club stereotype. It began with traditional Indian and Chinese practices: Mallakhamb, dating back 800 years, involved gravity-defying poses on a pole to train wrestlers. In Chinese pole, performers showcased strength and balance in circuses with vertical poles. In the 1920s, pole dancing entered North American circuses and vaudeville shows, gaining popularity in nightclubs in the 1980s. By the early 2000s, it evolved into the mainstream fitness practice we know today, celebrated for its health benefits and its ability to empower.

Pole fitness isn’t just a workout; it’s a whole-body experience. You’ll work muscles you didn’t even know existed! And don’t worry—you don’t need to be a dancer to take classes; you just need to have the drive to show up, even when it’s hard. Unlike traditional workouts that can feel like a chore, pole fitness keeps you engaged and in the moment. You won’t be counting the minutes—you’ll be spinning, climbing, and laughing your way through class. Before you know it, you’ll be` burning 400-600 calories an hour!
Let’s face it—nothing feels better than walking out of class knowing you just crushed it. Whether it’s nailing a spin, holding yourself up on the pole,or mastering that one trick you thought you’d never get, the sense of accomplishment is addictive. And guess what? That confidence translates into every area of your life.

Pole fitness is for everyone—regardless of age, size, or fitness lev-el. One of the things I love most about FitnessEnvi is our sense of community. We’re all about lifting each other up (literally and figura-tively). Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced athlete, you’ll find a group of supportive, like-minded women cheering you on every step of the way!

Ready to Spin? You don’t have to be a pro to start. At FitnessEnvi, we offer beginner classes where you can learn the basics—spins, tran-sitions, and floor work—while building strength and confidence. Or, if you’re feeling a little more daring, join us for an intermediate or advanced class to work on more complex tricks and transitions. Not sure about classes? Try a holiday-themed pole party! It’s the perfect girls’ night out, and most studios offer holiday discounts. If you don’t live near FitnessEnvi, there are tons of studios out there to explore. You’re just one spin away from a happier, healthier holiday.

So, go ahead, enjoy Santa’s cookies—just don’t let them derail your entire season. Instead, invest in something that will truly last: YOU. Spin your way through the holidays with confidence, strength, and a whole lot of fun. Happy Holidays and Happy Spinning!
